1.1 History
VIAS was incorporated on 14 January 1928 as one of the first specific rail companies in Spain, specialising in the laying, renovation and conservation railway lines.
In the 1940s, the firm began to diversity its business while continuing to specialise in railway building, participating in many of the most important projects in Spain during that period. The high degree of specialisation of the firm's own equipment and technology positioned VIAS at the forefront in this particular sector.
As a result of the continuing diversification of the company throughout the Sixties and Seventies, we were able to take part in several sections of the Roads Plan that substantially improved road
infrastructures. In the Seventies and Eighties, as this business began to slow in Spain, VIAS undertook the building of new infrastructures abroad, particularly in the Middle East, North Africa and South America.
By the Nineties, VIAS was one of the leading firms in the rail sector, for example by becoming the leading construction term in terms of contracts for the Madrid-Seville high-speed (HS) railway line.
Today, VIAS is a general construction company in Spain and abroad, whose continuing growth is supported by business opportunities that allow us to diversify our business.
